According to NHTSA, between 2013 and 2021, work zone fatalities increased 61 percent. In 2021, over 105,000 work zone crashes were estimated to have occurred resulting in over 42,000 injuries and 954 work zone fatalities. BRIDGE INSPECTION – ASTM D6087

Deicing salts and chloride ions within concrete mixes, over time can corrode ferrous material such as the reinforcement within a bridge deck. As the steel corrodes, expansion occurs and concrete, being weak in tensile strength, can delaminate and expedite the steel corrosion. Many times, these delaminations are not visible on the concrete surface.  In accordance with ASTM D6087, Echo GPR’s vehicle mounted GPR systems can “look” into the concrete and measure the reflection of every piece of rebar, statistically evaluating the signal return of each rebar and identifying potential corrosion within a deck.

CONCRETE / ASPHALT LAYER MAPPING – ACI 117 / ASTM D4748

Stop destroying your asphalt! That’s our motto at Echo GPR when you need to verify asphalt thickness or other bound and unbound pavement layer thicknesses. Our vehicle mounted GPR can quickly capture data in accordance with ASTM D4748. The use of GPR can quickly and accurately quantify and statistically measure the thickness of your pavement. Our testing also satisfies ACI 117 standard for the specification and tolerances for concrete thickness.

In the 21st century many agencies still look to subjective and outdated testing, methods that allow for interpretations and subjective assessment. Proper testing should involve the ability to measure, quantify, statistically analyze the data and most importantly, make the testing repeatable.
